Hi Wanderlust, I wanted to thank you again for your kind words to my "Live in the present moment" hub, and I noticed that a huge chunk of it was missing. If the top 10 list wasn't there last time you visited, take a look - I think you'll enjoy it. Sydney & Tokyo both sound awesome!
I would be heading to either Venice or Paris for coming new year celebrations...
That was one really informative hub! Thanks very much for the information. Found myself compelled to read most of each city. Rate up your page! Bob ;-)
Great info! I'm sure a lot of people will find this hub interesting.
Its very interesting and good images. Really last year i enjoyed alot iam wishing you to enjoy lot comming year. Nice hub with informative subject.
One thing you didn't mention about Sydney is that, being in the Southern Hemisphere, you'll be watching the fireworks on a warm, balmy night. Near midnight in Sydney you'll see lots of gals strolling around in their filmy cocktail dresses and guys in open neck shirts - there's no need for a coat or even a cardi! A lot of people take a champagne picnic down to the foreshore early in the day to reserve a ringside seat on the grass.
I would love to go to Venice.
Hogmany in Edinburgh is also great for New Year's Eve. Wrap up though, it can get very cold!
Now you don't have my option for New Year's Eve: we are planning on taking a narrow gauge train out of Port Augusta, South Australia having driven from Perth accross the Nullabor - but I think that's another hub!
This is some really good stuff.
Nice hub, might try one of the places out one day!
Good to know this Wanderlust. I have been to New York for the New Year Eve. Its amazing there. I guess Vegas should be good too as I have been in Christmas time.
All these places look like a lot of fun. I still prefer my living room with some close family and friends. Nice hub.
ill be in timbukto....
Great hub. I'd love to be able to go to any of them, but I won't be able to. (I'm poor!) However, if I had a choice......
I'd go straight to Sin City!
VERY USEFUL HUB .. I AM JUST LOOKING FOR THIS INFORMATION... I WILL PLAN FOR NEXT YEAR.. THANK U VERY MUCH AND KEEP IT UP WHY DONT U CREATE A HUB WITH NEWLY ELECTED WONDERS OF THE WORLD ... U CAN...
Good hub. London's firework show is great. Not so keen on the Trafalgar Square crowd though. I've always fancied the Sydney New Year, ever since watching their Y2K celebration. But I'd add a vote for Edinburgh too. As a Scot, I've got to!
Reykjavi ...no doubt
Reykjavik
Wow Great Hub!! I love New Years....well without the cold weather.
Those are some awesome cities to visit at any time of the year! I spent New Years in Istanbul one year and it was fantastic- it was their festival of Byrum at the same time so that might have been why.
Great hub! Makes me want to celebrate all over the world :)
Great hub. How about Rio? Must be great there.
Great Hub. Thanks!!!!!
What a wonderful array of places to celebrate the new year! We often just think of New York and the big ball but you have shown us many different places.
While I stay home I would like to see Tokyo. The tradition in Barcelona is wonderful eating the 12 grapes! Now why don't we have a tradition more unique? We have a ball.
Happy New Year to ALL!!
wow, im from nigeria and have never had the opportunity of traveling outside my country to celebrate new years eve or any other festival....im looking forward to this xmas and new year though. i hope to have the fun of my life. thanks for this hubpage, at least now i know where to go....
Great ideas for New Year celebration. Thanks.
Hi Wanderlust,
Great hub! I have always dreamed of spending a New Year's Eve in Times Square but I don't think I could handle the crowds! All good ideas though, and if I ever find myself traveling somewhere for New Year's I will definitely consider these places.
Being from London I have a particular affinity for it. However, Tokyo sounds lovely. I am game for that trip. Happy New Year to one and all..
PR: wait... I: wait... L: wait... LD: wait... I: wait...wait... CY: wait... I: wait... L: wait... YCat: wait... I: wait... Top: wait... I: wait... L: wait... C: wait... SD: wait...
Cape Town, South Africa! Come here for the 2010 World Cup! Seychelles also has my vote ... the best tropical island holiday you could wish for. .
Great places! I'd like to ring the New Year in while visiting Tokyo.
Dee Hubbing It Up
Long Walk Up
Having just spent New Year in Paris I can assure you there are no fireworks! Contrary to the comment above about fireworks. I was at the Trocadero opposite the Eiffel Tower and there was nothing! Still a nice place to go though.
excellent hub.I like it.
Great Article.

Great tips mate, I am starting to think I should go far away, perhaps to the colorful Eastern Asia to have my next New Year's celebration!
Very sexy hub just like me ...... keep it up ....
There were no fireworks in Paris on New Years Eve 2008. A little bit disappointing.
Nevertheless I drank a very good champagne which made me forget about the fireworks.
my bday is new years day, I gotta bring it in right! This year toronto baby!
going to be going to Tokyo this New Years Eve. I can't wait.
Lovely. Thank you!
It sounds awesome to go to some of those cities but I have gotten to the point where I am starting to stay in...maybe if I was younger.
Great Hub . .I feel like I just have gone to each of these cities .. you really took me there and for that I thank you!
I will be spending my new years in NY this year... but tokyo sounds great as well!
LONDON LONDON LONDON LONDON LONDON ofcourse LOL
LONDON LONDON LONDON LONDON LONDON ofcourse LOL
Thank you for the hub, this should be on everyone's to-do list. Personally my favourite is Rio in Brazil. The party atmosphere is fantastic.
Great selection of places to be during New Years, great hub and thanks for sharing.
I would think that Rio would be a great time...plus it is warm and the summer in Brazil.
5 down 5 to go. great article. Sydney was fab and would recommend to anyone. The people are great and there is loads to do there. NYC is perhaps the worst on the list but it is a traditional NYE place in America.
What a brilliant hub, Sydney Harbour Fireworks look amazing as does Disney World, I would love to spend New Year there! Keep up the good work :-)
I voted for 'Don't care' in the sense I have a good time whatever I do on NYE so I don't put that much thought into it. However, this excellent hub has some good suggestions-I love Toronto, maybe I'll go there this year for NYE...
Orlando was a surprise - not Miami? I want to travel to ALL! Great Hub!
Nice Hub. The Waterford Crystal Ball in New York is really a highlight.
I was at Las Vegas for new years. It was straight up BEAUTIFUL~
i am going to stay home by myself and drink until i pass out
Rio de Janeiro
Edinburgh is the best place for New Year. I cant believe someone suggested London here! England is not known for celebrating New Year really, that is untill people in England saw the Americans love New Year.
New Year celebrations in Edinburgh carry on for days after. Its probably the biggest holiday event in Scotland and NOT to be missed at all. One of the worlds biggest street parties in a beautiful city. Its also a very cultural thing so i would put Edinburgh at number 1.
FYI: all fireworks are prohibited in Paris...
ITS HOGMANAY FOLKS AND the scots invented old langs syne....cant believe EDINBURGH isint number one spot nevermind not even there better than London sydney tokyo the lot!
EDINBURGH SCOTLAND
how did you not mention Rio de Janeiro???
All great party cities!
I'm going to be in London for NYE! Yay!
Durban, South-Africa
good one
MELBOURNE allllllllllllllllll the way :)
the best of the lot has to be rio de janeiro
Acutally i would be Edinburgh and Paris are the best followed by New York. Although for some reason i would love to spend a quiet New Year on a gorgeous Greek Island and take part in the local traditions.
last year London, maybe Bueno Aires this year
Washington DC has a James Bond Thunderball party that I've been to with a group of my single friends. We get the VIP tickets...it's a sexy affair and there is so much to do. We have tons of fun and we're going again this year...they are having the Bond cars there so I want my photo souvenir with the Aston Martin. Yeah!
Fantastic Hub Wanderlust,
Melbourne must have just missed out at number 11! lol ;)
Nice hub. Thanks for posting. And Keep posting more.
Great hub and informative also. But everyone also takes some resolution for their upcoming life. You can also have a look on it.
? want to go every contry but soory:((((
i dont know where 2 go for New years eve. Im having some friend problems and Im realy down. Any ideas?
Go to Barcelona. the people are so friendly and will make you forget everything!
you forgot Amsterdam it's the best place to be at new years eve!! alot of fireworks and you can do it yourselfxD
I know you had already mentioned a british city london but 'Hogmanay' is very famous in Edinburgh, Scotland. Perhaps even bigger than London. :D
Tokyo was a total letdown!
I love Paris, I lived there for 2 years but it is one of the worst NYE ever. They no longer do fireworks and are so worried about security concerns and youth from the ghettos coming in and ripping up the place the whole night has a distinctly military-esque feel. This is obviously a heavily American-centered list as I would say take off Orlando and Toronto. Also, to not mention Berlin and Rio de Janeiro (with millions of people in white on the beaches of Copa Cabana for the firework show) makes me think this author hasn't been anywhere!
I don't know how you can list London anywhere near the top of this list! I live in London and most pubs and bars charge entry fees on new year's eve simply because they can, and still they are uncomfortably full. Transportation slows down considerably, and you either have to get a place by the river and wait hours to see the fireworks, or push through crowds, and then the display lasts about 2 minutes! Go somewhere warm!
sydney is the best hands down
Uh? Have you guys guys ever heard of Rio de Janeiro?
An informative post like this should be receiving an award. Yes, I mean it! As you can see your site acquires lots of readers cause of this wonderful information you add up here. And I guess for this coming year the best city to stay for a New Years Eve is in Orlando. My kids love to be there ever since.
Well...just a few words: new years in COPACABANA BEACH in Rio is amazing!
Sydney is always a great option! Amazing every year and caters for everyone. Can do the family thing at the harbour with the atmosphere starting early in the day and kids fireworks at 9pm then midnight fireworks are the best I have ever seen! Or can have a quiet night and party all day the next day at field day music festival. Thailand NYE is also brilliant! I highly recommend Phi Phi Island or Koh Phangan full moon party for beach parties where drinks and music are aplenty and the weather is amazing!!!
Nothing beats the Philippines when it comes to fireworks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnpZdWGGzIo
the best place for new year's eve...noisy and smokin'
already i'm in Japan for 18 years,i am Italian,Paris must be the next new year eve ,London was ok,but Tokyo is the top there is everythink that you wish for it!
I would love to go to Tokyo for New Years. That would be a party for sure!
People come to SKOPJE, Macedonia will have great time here...
This year is TORONTO :D
Los Angeles- Many New Year celebration enthusiasts book air tickets to Los Angeles - the City of Angels. It is very easy to find a New Year event in Los Angeles but the hard part is to choose which one to attend. Nice post
You dont wanna miss " The Great Dubai " flavour .. Check new year eve in the most luxurious kilometer in the whole world ... -&( Downtown Dubai)&- .. Burj Khalifa - the tallest manmade structure ever built. Dubai mall - the world largest shopping mall. Dubai fountain - the record setting dancing fountain.
Forget about what you read above. The best New Year celebration is in Rio de Janeiro. Tokyo, Toronto, huahuahuahu
I'm surprised Rio de Janeiro wasn't mentioned. Every year, over 2 million people head to Copacabana beach in all white clothing to celebrate with fireworks, champagne, and live music. A "must see"!
This article ( and the comments over the years) was very useful. I'll not be straying too far from home this year, but the destinations mentioned are something to think about for next year. Thanks for sharing.
Is much better MADEIRA FIREWORKS!!! ;);)
i spend new year 2008 in paris and it was nice because of us friends , but the parisians didnt offer nothing , music , fireworks or something ! we where in trocadero plaza close to the eiffel tower. maybe other places where more fun.
waooo very nice list of cities to celebrate new yaer eve
i have something to share
Very surprised that Edinburgh in Scotland wasn't mentioned, it has the worlds largest street party and is considered by a lot of people to be the best in the world....
Rio de Janeiro is the best place ever for a new year's celebration!
BALI its just like you are in paradise
Thanks for the info, next year i'll keep this places in mind and the next definitely i'll choose one of those places for 2012
Believe me that Paramaribo, Suriname is the best city to celebrate new years eve. Suriname shoots the most fireworks per capita from the whole world and has the kindest and happiest people imaginable?
What about Hogmanay in Edinburgh, definitely a bigger celebration than some of the cities listed, and it's actually a cultural holiday, not just a modern city with fireworks.
Rythm and vines in gisborne New Zealand!!! not only is it the biggest new years eve music festival in the southern hemisphere, but its also the first place in the world to see the new year being in the tip of the east of new zealand. get there!!!
Been to Orlando and Disney is great for NYE they have the fireworks do the countdown. In the sky it was extremely cool, but Sydney Australia definitely is number one in my list, experienced NYE for 2012 here on the harbor and DANG it was jaw dropping :)
Punta del este, uruguay its a great place to spend new years
Video pof 2012 New Year's eve fireworks countdown at
Madeira is a must have...well done....
Always wanted to go to France to see the effiel tower, the Louvre, the cathedral and the art museum... I will be in Spain in a few months for the running of the bulls - although I will not be running!
